Jets sign safety Pool

Comments: 11MIAMI -- Just days after trading away starting safety Kerry Rhodes, the Jets yesterday reached an agreement with Browns safety Brodney Pool on a one-year deal worth $1.3 million.
Pool, in his fifth year in the NFL, was a non-tendered restricted free agent, meaning the Jets could sign him without giving up any compensation and not be affected by the "final-four" rule that prohibits them from signing an unrestricted free agent without losing one of their own.
The signing is a bit risky considering Pool has suffered multiple concussions in his career. Cornerbacks Lito Sheppard and Donald Strickland both were released this offseason in large part because they had injury issues in 2009.
Pool joins Eric Smith and James Ihedigbo as the possible replacements for Rhodes.
Meanwhile, in a curious and intriguing development, former Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson is in New Jersey to visit the Jets today after being wooed yesterday by the Vikings.
That the Jets are interested in Tomlinson is somewhat ironic considering how bad their defense made him look in their playoff win over the Chargers in January. Many speculated that Tomlinson's performance against the Jets helped lead to his release.
Signing Tomlinson, who would not come cheaply, makes little sense, since the Jets are planning for Shonn Greene to carry the load in 2010.
Tomlinson, who will be 31 in June, ranks eighth on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 12,490 yards. His 138 career rushing touchdowns rank second.
His performance dipped in 2009, when he had the least productive season of his career with 730 yards rushing on 223 carries for an average of 3.3 yards per carry.
* The Jets also met with Raiders free-agent linebacker Jon Alston yesterday.

true and R.I.P. Merlen Olsen.
Before we had the Sack Exchange in NY there was the Rams Fearsome Foursome. I was more a fan of Alan Page and the Viking Purple People Eaters with Carl Eller.

This reeks of desperation. Hasen't Jet Managem. learned enough about repeated concussions . . . and signing Thomlinson would be direct repeat of signing R.Lott

I've said this before I am a New Yorker and Die-Hard Jets Fan who now lives in San Diego.
I've watched the Chargers play every week during the season, Ladanian Tomlinson's numbers over the last few seasons had more to do with AJ Smith's desire to prove he made the right choice by drafting Eli Manning then drafting the trade with the Giants for Philip Rivers than with Ladanian Tomlinson's decline in ability.
Jets fans with Brian Schottheimer's creativity and familiarity with LT picture a backfield (wildcat whatever you want call it) with Leon, Shonne and LT - what defense is going to know who to cover. This will give Mark and our O-Line two safety valves and core options, Jericho and Kellen along with Braylon.

I am not as pessimistic about the Jets' decision not to pay Jones, who would be a backup, over six million dollars this year. The fact is that the Jets are convinced, as I am, that Greene is now the better player. Don't just look at the total yardage, look at the yards per carry. Jones isn't in Greene's class! They don't pay you for what you did, they pay you for what you project to do!

In an uncapped year, the Jets are being cheap. Why you ask? The new stadium and PSL sales not going as expected. So now we lost TJ and soon Washington and probably to the Pats. jadeeagle is correct with his comments. Same old Jets. Don't look for them to win more than six games this year. They always follow great season with a greater disappointment. F You Woody.
